Liquid AI, a rapidly growing AI startup, has secured $250 million in an early-stage funding round led by its strategic partner, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD). This investment boosts the company’s valuation to over $2 billion, according to a report from Bloomberg. Other notable contributors to this Series A funding include OSS Capital, Duke Capital Partners, and PagsGroup. Earlier in 2023, Liquid AI raised around $46.6 million in seed funding.

The funding comes at a time when generative AI has become a hot topic in the tech world, especially following the meteoric rise of OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which captured the global imagination after its launch in late 2022. This surge in interest has seen an influx of billions of dollars into AI startups, with Liquid AI firmly positioning itself as a key player in the growing sector.

At the heart of Liquid AI’s offerings are its new Liquid Foundation Models (LFMs), which the company claims can deliver performance on par with, or even outperform, traditional large language models (LLMs) developed by giants like OpenAI, Google Cloud, and AWS.

The startup’s models come in three distinct sizes: LFM-1B, a compact 1.3 billion parameter model designed for on-device use, such as mobile phones; LFM-3B, a more powerful 3.1 billion parameter model built for edge computing; and the LFM-40B Mixture of Experts, which is tailored for handling complex tasks that require a high level of computational power.

In addition to its new funding, Liquid AI is also strengthening its ties with AMD, whose graphics, central, and neural processing units will play a key role in optimizing the company’s foundation models. This collaboration is set to enhance Liquid AI’s capabilities, enabling it to offer cutting-edge solutions across a variety of industries, including consumer electronics, biotechnology, telecommunications, financial services, and e-commerce.

Founded just last year in 2023, Liquid AI’s rapid rise has made it one of the most exciting startups in the AI space, with its sights set on revolutionising industries through innovative AI technologies.
