In a bid to address the gender disparity prevalent in the technology sector, Lafarge Africa Plc has unveiled the Girls in Tech Program, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at empowering young women in technology. Tailored to empower 10 young females between the ages of 18-25 from Lafarge Africa Host communities in Cross River State, the program holds the promise of making a substantial impact in the region.

The Girls in Tech Program is strategically crafted to tap into the unique talents of these young women and introduce them to the dynamic realm of technology. By equipping them with essential skills and opportunities, the initiative endeavors to nurture self-reliance and problem-solving abilities within the participants.

In collaboration with industry leaders such as Aptech and Arena Multimedia, renowned for their expertise in technology incubation, and The Bridge Leadership Foundation, the boot camp is poised to offer a transformative experience for the participating girls, who are eager to carve a niche for themselves in the tech industry.

Addressing the significance of the program, Sotirios Valsamakis, Plant Manager of Lafarge Africa Plc, emphasized the company’s commitment to diversity and inclusion. He underscored the need for greater diversity and inclusivity within the tech sector, highlighting the program as a catalyst for igniting inspiration and hope among young women across the host communities.

The recent onboarding event held in Calabar witnessed commendations from various quarters, including the Cross Rivers State government, represented by Justin Beshel, Commissioner for Science, Innovation & Technology. The initiative garnered praise for its alignment with the government’s agenda for science, technology, and innovation development.

Through collaborative efforts and community support, Lafarge Africa’s Girls in Tech Program is poised to pave the way for a new generation of female innovators, fostering a culture of empowerment and advancement in the technology landscape.
