Iberdrola, a prominent energy company, has introduced a new initiative named DestElla in Mexico, aimed at fostering the empowerment of women through sport. This programme, launched by Iberdrola Mexico, is part of the company’s ongoing dedication to promoting equity and inclusion.
Katya Somohano, the general manager of Iberdrola Mexico, expressed her enthusiasm for the project: “We are proud to present DestElla, an initiative that seeks to empower women and be an engine of change to move towards a fairer and more equitable world, where everyone can develop their full potential in different areas of life.”
The core objective of DestElla is to enhance the participation of girls and young women in sports activities at educational institutions. The programme focuses on providing essential support to female athletes by donating sports equipment and training gear, offering access to gyms, and assisting high-performance athletes with resources for accommodation and living expenses during pre-competition training camps.
In addition to DestElla, Iberdrola Mexico runs several other social initiatives dedicated to supporting women. These include Impulso STEM, which encourages young women to pursue careers in science and technology, and ComunidadEs Igualdad, an initiative aimed at eradicating gender violence and reducing inequality through human rights awareness.
