Hamad International Airport (DOH) in Doha continues its upward trajectory as a global aviation powerhouse, having surpassed all previous records set in 2023 during the first quarter of 2024. This achievement comes on the heels of the airport’s recent accolade as the World’s Best Airport 2024 by the esteemed Skytrax World Airport Awards.

In Q1 2024, Hamad International Airport experienced a remarkable surge in activity, with passenger traffic soaring by 27.6% compared to the same period last year. The airport welcomed a total of 13,171,540 passengers, with January recording 4,533,212 passengers, February seeing 4,368,710 passengers, and March accommodating 4,269,618 passengers. Additionally, aircraft movements increased by 23.9%, totaling 69,959 arrivals and departures during the quarter.

Cargo operations also witnessed robust growth, with the airport handling 626,338 tonnes of cargo and facilitating the movement of 10,457,444 bags, including 7,210,079 transfer bags. These figures underscore Hamad International Airport’s status as a preferred transfer hub for global travelers.

Further strengthening its global connectivity, the airport served 188 cargo and passenger destinations in Q1, with a network of 48 airlines, including four new airline partners that joined since the previous year.

In its ongoing commitment to passenger satisfaction and operational excellence, Hamad International Airport introduced dedicated transfer security lanes for families with children to streamline the security process and provide personalized assistance. Additionally, the airport received the ISO 45001:2018 Occupational Health & Safety Management System Certification from the British Standards Institution (BSI), underscoring its commitment to safety and well-being.

MATAR, the Qatar Company for Airports Operation and Management, was honored with the ‘Best Innovative Use Of Big Data And Analytics Award’ at the Qatar Digital Business Awards 2023, highlighting the airport’s data-driven operational enhancements. Furthermore, the airport’s ORCHARD project received acclaim for its innovation, winning the ‘Large-Format Digital Canvases’ award for its 1.2 Kilometers Digital Ribbon in Barcelona.

Hamad International Airport’s recent accolades include being named the World’s Best Airport 2024, Best Airport Shopping for the second consecutive year, and Best Airport in the Middle East for the tenth consecutive year by the Skytrax World Airport Awards.
