According to Bloomberg reports, Greater Bay Airlines Limited (GBA) is undergoing a significant leadership transition, as CEO Stanley Hui prepares to step down next month, potentially paving the way for COO Liza Ng to become the first female CEO of the airline.

Mr. Stanley Hui Hon-chung Hui, 73, a seasoned aviation executive with nearly five decades of experience, is expected to resign from his role in the coming month. Liza Ng, the current Chief Operating Officer, emerges as a frontrunner to succeed him, pending official confirmation.

Ms Liza Ng, a former senior executive at Cathay Pacific Airways, assumed her position at Greater Bay Airlines in June 2023. If appointed, she would make history as the carrier’s first female CEO since its establishment in 2020.

Greater Bay Airlines, positioned as a “value carrier,” operates short-haul routes across North and Southeast Asia, utilizing a fleet of seven Boeing Co. 737 aircraft. The airline, founded by Chinese property magnate Bill Wong, aims for long-term expansion with orders for 15 737-9 Max jets and commitments to acquire five 787 Dreamliner long-range jets.

While Hui declined to comment on the impending leadership transition, his tenure as CEO since June 2022 has been instrumental, including overseeing the airline’s inaugural passenger flight in July of the same year. He brings a wealth of experience from his previous roles at Dragonair and Hong Kong’s Airport Authority.

The impending leadership change underscores Greater Bay Airlines’ commitment to growth and diversification under new leadership, positioning the carrier for continued success in the competitive aviation industry.
