Saskatchewan, Canada has declared May 11 to 17 as Women Entrepreneurs Week, celebrating the significant role of women-led businesses in boosting the province’s economy. The announcement highlights the province’s commitment to acknowledging the achievements of female entrepreneurs and the networks that support them.
“Women are making significant contributions in every sector of our economy,” stated Alana Ross, the minister responsible for the Status of Women. “Each May, our government is proud to partner with Women Entrepreneurs of Saskatchewan (WESK) to celebrate the innovation, resilience, and success of women-led businesses that are helping to build a strong Saskatchewan.”
Women Entrepreneurs of Saskatchewan (WESK), a non-profit organization with nearly 30 years of experience, has been instrumental in empowering women in business. It provides support through services like business advice, financing, mentorship, training, and networking opportunities. WESK CEO Miriam Johnson emphasised the importance of women entrepreneurs in the local economy, noting that “Women entrepreneurs are not only helping shape Saskatchewan’s business community – they are a driving force behind its economic growth.With 21 per cent of private sector businesses majority-owned by women, their contributions are creating jobs, building local economies, and strengthening communities across the province. At WESK, we are proud to continue supporting women at every stage of business, and we are honoured to celebrate their innovation, leadership, and impact during Women Entrepreneurs Week.”
Trade and Export Development Minister Warren Kaeding also acknowledged the impact of women-led businesses on the province, highlighting their contributions to job creation, community support, and economic opportunity. “Our government is proud to see women entrepreneurship in Saskatchewan continue to grow and thrive. During this week, it is important to recognize the significant contributions women entrepreneurs have made to Saskatchewan’s economy through job creation, support for their communities and creating opportunities for all those who call this province home,” he said.
Saskatchewan’s government has pledged to maintain programs and incentives that encourage a strong, competitive business environment, ensuring that women entrepreneurs can continue to thrive and shape the province’s economic future.
