Foxconn, a major manufacturer of electronics and an Apple vendor, announced that Kathy Yang Chiu-chin would take over as its rotating CEO, with effect from Monday.
Chiu-chin will be the first female to serve as Foxconn’s rotating CEO, according to a release.
“Hon Hai Technology Group (Foxconn) has named Kathy Yang Chiu-chin its rotating Chief Executive Officer, effective Monday, setting two major milestones in corporate governance leadership for the world’s largest electronics manufacturing service provider,” the company said.
Foxconn chairman Young Liu, during his visit to India in August 2024, had told PTI that the company is looking to promote women in leadership roles. Chiu-chin was also present at the occasion in Chennai where Liu spoke about the Foxconn Group’s efforts to support women in leadership roles.
According to the last information shared by Foxconn, women account for 30 percent of its total workforce in India. Foxconn had around 48,000 employees in August 2024.
Chiu-chin takes the baton from C C Lin.
A representative from one of Foxconn’s six main business sectors—computers, televisions, cellphones, etc.—is appointed to the position under the company’s rotating CEO model.
According to Liu, the rotational CEO model gives general managers early experience with group-level leadership duties so they may build the abilities needed for more expansive positions.
“Over time, this transitional system will cultivate a pool of leaders with proven expertise in both operational execution and organisational management,” he said
Chiu-chin is also the global chief campus operating officer for Foxconn. She also serves as the chairperson and CEO of JUSDA, Foxconn’s logistics solutions subsidiary, and the company’s top logistics and trade compliance officer.
