Fauziah Hisham has been appointed as the new chairperson of ETIQA Group, effective July 1, 2024, marking a significant milestone as she becomes the first woman to hold this position in the company’s history. She takes over from Datuk R. Karunakaran, who retired after a distinguished tenure of over seven years.
With a career spanning more than 30 years in banking, Fauziah brings extensive expertise to her new role. Her background includes senior positions at renowned institutions such as JP Morgan Chase, Standard Chartered Bank, and Australia & New Zealand Banking Group in Malaysia. She notably served as CEO of JP Morgan Chase Bank Berhad from 2002 to 2006.
Prior to her appointment as chairperson, Fauziah served on the boards of Etiqa International Holdings Sdn Bhd and Maybank Ageas Holdings Bhd. She holds Fellow membership at the Chartered Governance Institute, United Kingdom, and is a Qualified Risk Director certified by the Institute of Enterprise Risk Practitioners.
In acknowledging her appointment, Etiqa’s CEO Kamaludin Ahmad expressed appreciation for Datuk Karunakaran’s leadership and welcomed Fauziah’s wealth of experience. He highlighted her role in advancing governance and risk management across various boards, including her current position at Maybank and chairing Etiqa Insurance Pte. Ltd.
