Enbridge has named Michele Harradence as its next President and Chief Executive Officer, with the senior executive set to take over from Greg Ebel on 1 January 2027.

The Canadian energy infrastructure company announced on 8 September that Ebel will retire as President and CEO on 31 December 2026. Harradence will also join Enbridge’s Board of Directors when she assumes the role.

Harradence currently serves as Executive Vice President and President of Enbridge’s Gas Distribution and Storage business, where she is responsible for the operations of the company’s gas utility platform across Canada and the United States. The business serves around 7.2 million homes, schools, hospitals and businesses.

She joined Enbridge in 2014 following a 16-year career at Shell, where she held a number of senior positions, including General Manager of Shell’s Sarnia Manufacturing Centre in Ontario. She has more than 25 years of experience across the energy value chain, spanning upstream, midstream, downstream, retail and oil and gas services.

Before taking responsibility for Enbridge’s gas utility business, Harradence served as Chief Operating Officer of the company’s Gas Transmission and Midstream business. She has also played a significant role in integrating Enbridge’s major US utility acquisitions.

Her academic background combines engineering, law and business. Harradence holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Queen’s University, a law degree from the University of New Brunswick and has completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School.

Harradence has also held leadership positions within the wider energy industry. She is Chair of the Canadian Gas Association and a Board Member of the American Gas Association. She has previously been recognised among the Top 50 Most Powerful Women in Oil and Gas and as one of the Most Powerful and Influential Women by the National Diversity Council.

Under Ebel, who became Enbridge’s President and CEO in January 2023, the company expanded its natural gas utility operations through the acquisition of three utilities from Dominion Energy. Enbridge now has a secured growth backlog of approximately C$41 billion across its liquids pipelines, gas transmission and storage, natural gas utilities and renewable power businesses.

Ebel will remain on Enbridge’s Board through the end of 2026 and will continue as an adviser to the Board and Harradence until May 2027.
