The Birla Institute of Management Technology (BIMTECH) has announced a major strategic collaboration with UNIQLO India, sealed with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 6 August 2025. The agreement marks a milestone for BIMTECH’s Retail Management Programme and paves the way for unique opportunities for its students.
The signing ceremony was attended by prominent industry professionals from India and Japan, including Kenji Inoue, Kamalika Deka, Kanta Nagasaki, Mayank Shukla, Mansi Saxena, Rituja P., and Archana Sharma. Their visit to the campus allowed for the exchange of valuable insights on global retail trends and operational excellence.
Central to this partnership is the introduction of UNIQLO’s UMC (UNIQLO Manager Candidate) initiative, aimed at developing the retail leaders of tomorrow. Alongside this, UNIQLO has brought in its innovative youth programme, UMO, designed to equip young talent with leadership skills, retail expertise, and vital hands-on industry experience. The initiative reflects UNIQLO’s dedication to preparing the next generation for impactful roles within the global retail sector.
The collaboration highlights the growing importance of consumer experience in today’s retail landscape. It is no longer simply about purchasing a product, but about the emotional and interactive journey a customer has with a brand , from browsing collections to post-purchase engagement. A memorable consumer experience, as both organisations recognise, builds long-term trust, loyalty, and meaningful brand connections.
While UNIQLO continues to push boundaries with product innovations such as HEATTECH and AIRism, the company credits its success to the ability to create lasting, emotionally resonant experiences for customers worldwide.
Through this partnership, BIMTECH students will gain access to cutting-edge retail practices and first-hand learning from leading industry practitioners. The alliance is expected to provide invaluable exposure, preparing graduates to excel in an increasingly competitive and experience-driven retail market.
BIMTECH expressed gratitude for the leadership of its Director, Prabina Rajib, and Deputy Director, Pankaj Priya, whose commitment has helped secure this opportunity. Their vision, the institute says, ensures students have pathways to learn, grow, and connect with global industry leaders.
The collaboration stands as a significant step in bridging academic training with real-world retail expertise, a move both BIMTECH and UNIQLO believe will shape a new generation of skilled professionals ready to make their mark on the industry.
