Amita Chaudhury named Chair of UNEP FI Sustainable Insurance Board

The United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) has appointed Amita Chaudhury as Chair of the Principles for Sustainable Insurance (PSI) Board, making her the first woman of Indian origin to hold the position.

Chaudhury, who represents AIA Group, brings more than two decades of leadership experience across Singapore, London and India. She has built an international career focusing on sustainability, diversity and business transformation.

An alumna of the Indian Institute of Management, Bengaluru, she has held senior global roles including at Unilever. In recognition of her work, she received the Leading Women Award for Sustainable Development from the World Business Council for Sustainable Development.

Headquartered in Geneva, UNEP FI is a global partnership between the United Nations and the financial sector. It has more than 500 members worldwide, including banks, insurers and investors, and works to mobilise private finance in support of sustainable development. Its efforts aim to create a financial system that delivers positive outcomes for people and the planet.

Speaking on her appointment, Chaudhury said: “As a representative of the AIA Group, I look forward to working with the PSI Board to advance sustainable insurance practices globally.”

Her appointment has been described as a breakthrough for women professionals from India, reflecting both her individual achievements and the wider progress of women in leadership on the international stage.

Chaudhury has often characterised her career as being about “delivering business value while making a positive impact for the planet and society, through innovation, business integration and partnerships”.
