AB Mauri Lanka, a prominent supplier of high-quality ingredients and yeast to Sri Lanka’s bakery sector, is marking International Women’s Day 2025 with the launch of its new flagship initiative, “Empower Her.” The event, set for March 2, 2025, at the Sheraton Colombo Hotel, aims to highlight the company’s dedication to diversity, inclusion, and the empowerment of women, especially in the baking industry.

Through “Empower Her,” AB Mauri Lanka intends to provide essential skills development opportunities for women, with a focus on those facing economic challenges or receiving support through the state welfare program, Aswasuma. This initiative is designed to help women, particularly single parents and primary breadwinners, gain the skills needed to create their own businesses and achieve financial independence. As part of the program, 20 full scholarships will be awarded to women looking to forge a career in the baking industry. The company’s belief is that by offering these women the right tools and training, they will be empowered to achieve economic freedom and create employment opportunities for others.

A key highlight of the event will be an inspiring keynote speech from a prominent female figure in the baking industry, who will share her personal journey and offer motivational insights. Alongside this, there will be a thought-provoking panel discussion, where accomplished women will talk about essential topics such as personal styling, women’s rights, managing stress and mental health, and empowerment within the baking world.

The event also promises valuable networking opportunities, allowing attendees to connect with professionals from the industry, exchange experiences, and foster relationships within a supportive community. The day will culminate in a special ceremony where the scholarship winners will be honoured, marking the beginning of their journey toward professional success and empowerment.

“Empower Her” forms part of AB Mauri Lanka’s broader Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategy, which focuses on creating a positive and lasting social impact. This initiative underscores the company’s commitment to issues such as gender equality, education, and health. By investing in the development of skills and offering women the chance to succeed in the baking industry, AB Mauri Lanka is helping to pave the way for a more inclusive and equitable future.

Applications for the “Empower Her” Scholarship Program are now open and will close on February 20, 2025. Interviews and aptitude tests are scheduled for February 22, 2025, with the final list of scholarship recipients to be announced on February 24, 2025.
