OpenAI has appointed Jill Hazelbaker as its Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, bringing one of Uber’s most senior executives into its leadership team as the artificial intelligence company strengthens its global communications and public engagement strategy.

The appointment was announced on 3 November 2026. Hazelbaker will join OpenAI in early December, leaving Uber after more than a decade with the company.

At OpenAI, Hazelbaker will oversee global communications, corporate reputation, brand positioning, social media, and cultural and community partnerships. She will work closely with the company’s leadership team to strengthen public understanding of artificial intelligence and build trust in its development and use.

Most recently, Hazelbaker served as President and Chief Corporate Affairs Officer at Uber, where she led teams responsible for marketing, communications, public policy, safety, human resources, recruiting and real estate.

During her tenure, she played a central role in shaping Uber’s corporate reputation and navigating significant regulatory and reputational challenges as the company expanded internationally.

Before joining Uber in 2015, Hazelbaker held senior communications and public policy positions at Snap and Google. At Google, she led corporate communications and worked across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, as well as government relations in Europe.

Her career also includes experience in American politics. She served as National Communications Director and Chief Spokesperson for Senator John McCain’s 2008 presidential campaign and previously worked as Press Secretary for New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

OpenAI President and Co-founder Greg Brockman welcomed the appointment, highlighting Hazelbaker’s leadership experience and understanding of the responsibilities involved in building technology at a global scale.

Hazelbaker said artificial intelligence represents the most profound technological shift of her lifetime, adding that building public trust will be increasingly important as the technology becomes part of everyday life.

Her appointment comes as technology companies face growing scrutiny over artificial intelligence, including questions surrounding safety, transparency, regulation and its wider impact on society.

The move marks a significant transition in Hazelbaker’s career, placing her in a senior corporate affairs position at one of the world’s most prominent artificial intelligence companies.
