Leucine Rich Bio has launched the BugSpeaks vaginal microbiome test, expanding its portfolio into female reproductive and urogenital health.
The Bengaluru-based microbiome company said the test is the first vaginal microbiome diagnostic of its kind available across South Asia and the Middle East. It builds on the company’s existing BugSpeaks gut microbiome and facial skin microbiome tests.
According to the company, the test analyses the vaginal microbial ecosystem to provide insights into bacterial composition and potential imbalances. It is designed to examine areas including vaginal dysbiosis and infections, reproductive health and fertility, susceptibility to sexually transmitted infections, and changes associated with menopause.
The test also covers microbial composition and predicted vaginal pH, functional secretions, interactions between the gut and vaginal microbiomes, and antimicrobial resistance profiling, according to Leucine Rich Bio.
The launch comes as microbiome research attracts growing attention for its potential role in understanding women’s health. The vaginal microbiome consists of microorganisms that naturally inhabit the vagina, with its composition varying between individuals and over time.
Traditional culture-based testing can identify certain microorganisms but may not capture the full diversity of the microbial community. Leucine Rich Bio says its test is intended to provide a broader assessment of this ecosystem.
However, microbiome test results should be interpreted carefully. The presence or absence of particular microorganisms does not, by itself, establish a clinical diagnosis, and test findings should not replace appropriate medical assessment or established diagnostic procedures.
With the new offering, Leucine Rich Bio is extending its microbiome testing portfolio beyond gut and skin health into an area of healthcare that remains the focus of ongoing scientific research.
