This week, we are spotlighting Sadia Haque, a trailblazing entrepreneur who transformed her personal passion for budget-friendly travel into ShareTrip, Bangladesh’s pioneering and leading online travel aggregator (OTA). Her journey is a testament to vision, resilience and digital innovation.
From building a travel technology business in Bangladesh to becoming the first Bangladeshi appointed an eTrade for Women Advocate for South Asia, Haque’s journey has expanded well beyond the company she co-founded.
Her appointment for the 2026–2027 term by UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) places her on a wider platform to represent the experiences and perspectives of women digital entrepreneurs across South Asia.
For Haque, the next chapter is not simply about growing a business. It is about helping create an environment in which more women can build, scale and lead digital businesses of their own.
From a passion for travel to a digital business
Haque’s entrepreneurial journey began with an interest in making travel more accessible and affordable.
That vision eventually became ShareTrip, which she co-founded with Kashef Rahman. The company developed into a major travel technology platform in Bangladesh, bringing together travel booking and related services through a digital platform.
Under Haque’s leadership, ShareTrip introduced features including automatic refunds, date changes and cancellations, while also building a substantial domestic hotel and resort inventory.
The company went on to receive recognition at the World Travel Awards for six consecutive years, beginning in 2018.
Taking a regional voice to the global stage
Haque’s latest achievement takes her beyond the travel industry.
As an eTrade for Women Advocate for South Asia, she will contribute to conversations around digital trade and the digital economy while representing the experiences of women building digital businesses across the region.
The eTrade for Women initiative, run by UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD), brings together women business leaders from developing and emerging economies to support greater participation by women in the digital economy.
For Haque, the role provides an opportunity to share lessons from her own entrepreneurial journey while helping amplify the challenges and opportunities facing women entrepreneurs across South Asia.
A career built around technology and transformation
Before becoming an entrepreneur, Haque developed experience across communications, technology and marketing, including roles with Grameenphone, BBC World Service Trust, Nokia and Banglalink.
That combination of technology and communications experience has shaped her approach to building ShareTrip, where digital innovation and customer experience have remained central to the company’s growth.
Her work has also earned recognition within Bangladesh. She was named Women Leader of the Year at the Philip Kotler Awards in 2023 and ICT Woman of the Year at the 2024 BRAC Bank–The Daily Star ICT Awards. She received the 2024 Outstanding Woman in Business recognition at the DHL–The Daily Star Bangladesh Business Awards.
Building opportunities for the next generation
Haque’s story now extends beyond her own entrepreneurial success.
Her new role with eTrade for Women gives her a platform to advocate for women entrepreneurs navigating the digital economy, particularly those building businesses in South Asia.
Access to capital, networks, knowledge and supportive business ecosystems can play a crucial role in determining whether an emerging company remains local or has the opportunity to scale.
Haque’s own journey, from a personal interest in affordable travel to leading a technology company, offers a first-hand perspective on that journey.
From transforming a personal passion into a leading digital business to becoming a voice for women entrepreneurs across South Asia, Sadia Haque is building a legacy that goes beyond ShareTrip.
