The British Land Company PLC has officially confirmed the appointment of Joanne McNamara as its next Chief Executive Officer. McNamara will transition to the FTSE 250 property firm from Oxford Properties, where she currently operates as Executive Vice President for Europe.

Oxford Properties acts as the real estate investment and development arm of the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System, which stands as one of the largest pension funds in Canada. Having joined the London division of Oxford in 2010 as an early team member, McNamara spent sixteen years helping to establish a 70-strong European workforce. During her tenure, she managed a diverse commercial portfolio spanning office, retail, logistics and residential assets with total assets under management valued at approximately £8 billion.

McNamara possesses more than twenty years of professional experience within the property sector. Her career before Oxford Properties included positions at property companies Hammerson and DTZ. She currently serves as a member of Oxford’s Global Executive and Investment Committees and retains a seat on the OMERS portfolio management committee. Furthermore, she held a position as a Non-Executive Director of ESR Group, an Asia-Pacific logistics real estate platform, until 2025.

The incoming executive has a maximum notice period of six months. British Land expects her to formally join the business by the end of November at the latest.

“I am delighted that Joanne is joining British Land from Oxford Properties, a business we respect and know well as a joint venture partner on the highly successful Leadenhall Building development,” stated William Rucker, Chairman of British Land. “Joanne is one of Europe’s most respected real estate professionals. With her deep expertise of real estate, valuable experience in the world of private capital and a strong reputation for decisive leadership, she is exceptionally well placed to drive the business forward. On behalf of the Board, I look forward to welcoming her to the team.”

“British Land is a business that I have always admired, with an impressive track record of delivering and managing best in class places across the UK and an expert team at its helm,” said Joanne McNamara regarding her appointment. “I am very much looking forward to working with the Board, Executive Committee and all of my new colleagues as we work together to build on what is already a fantastic platform for growth.”
