The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has confirmed that famous actress and producer Lucy Hale is joining the organisation as a global Goodwill Ambassador. Working from its headquarters in Rome, the WFP stated that Hale will use her platform to support over 318 million people who are currently facing extreme hunger. Her background as the daughter of a nurse and a Tennessee farmer has shaped her interest in food security, small-scale farming and children’s health.

“It is the honour of a lifetime to become a WFP Goodwill Ambassador,” said Hale. “It has long been my dream to give back in this way, and I am eager to shine a spotlight on WFP’s critical work to save and change lives around the world. I firmly believe in the power each of us has to spark change in the world and my hope is that others will join me in taking action to create a world free from hunger.”

Hale has been a supporter of the organisation since 2024. Her previous fundraising efforts have provided essential support for communities in Sudan, Gaza, Myanmar and Ukraine. As humanitarian resources become more stretched during the current hunger crisis, Hale intends to use her public influence to increase support for global operations.

“I am delighted to welcome Lucy Hale as a WFP Goodwill Ambassador,” said WFP’s Executive Director Cindy McCain. “In a world where so many people go to bed hungry, we are fortunate to have someone as passionate and committed as Lucy partnering with us. Her voice will elevate attention to people and places too often overlooked – and help drive the action needed to reach them.”

Hale is widely recognised for her lead role in the series Pretty Little Liars. She is currently working as an executive producer and star for the Netflix series Dead Letters. Her upcoming projects include the films Princess, Legacy and The Twelve Dates of Christmas. By taking on this new role, she joins other famous WFP ambassadors such as Kate Hudson, Michael Kors and Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye. Other notable names on the list include Ashley Park, Ons Jabeur, Son Heung-Min and Andrew Zimmern.
