The Football Association (FA) has announced Sue Day as its new Director of Women’s Football, succeeding Baroness Sue Campbell by the year’s end. Day, currently serving as Chief Operations Officer and Chief Financial Officer at the Rugby Football Union (RFU), brings extensive experience to her new role.

In her new position, the 51-year-old will lead the FA’s women’s football strategy for the next four years, with a focus on promoting equal opportunities for women and girls at all levels of the sport. She will also represent the FA on the board of NewCo, the organization governing the WSL and Women’s Championship starting from the 2024/25 season.

Moreover, Day will spearhead efforts to raise awareness of disability football in England, a cause she holds close to her heart. As a former captain of England’s women’s national rugby union team and a founding trustee of the Women’s Sport Trust, Day has been recognized for her commitment to gender equality in sport, receiving an MBE in 2020.

Expressing her enthusiasm for the role, Day emphasized the transformative potential of women’s football in both sporting and societal realms. She highlighted the importance of addressing disparities in access and opportunities, drawing from her personal experience of facing gender barriers in sports during her upbringing.
