The International Peace Institute (IPI), together with the Permanent Mission of Ireland to the United Nations and Mexico’s Secretary of Foreign Affairs, will cohost the annual Women, Peace, and Leadership Symposium on Women’s Leadership for International Peace and Security on Wednesday, September 24.

The event, now in its eighth year, is organised in partnership with Our Secure Future and the Nobel Women’s Initiative. It is designed to ensure that the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) agenda is not only discussed during the UN Security Council’s “WPS week” in October, but also embedded within wider high-level UN debates.

This year’s symposium returns to the core theme of women’s leadership in global peace and security. The programme will explore the role of women in political decision-making, conflict settings, and grassroots communities, while also addressing emerging areas such as technology. While the event will highlight progress and innovative leadership examples, it will also call on participants of all genders to challenge structural barriers and uphold international obligations to improve women’s participation.

The symposium is expected to draw diplomats, policymakers, activists, and civil society representatives to advance dialogue on equality in leadership and accountability in peacebuilding.
