The Women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Coalition is inviting members of the Defence Team to a hybrid panel event on 21 October, focused on the themes of innovation, resilience, and leadership. The session will take place from 9:00 to 11:00 EDT, with both in-person and virtual participation options available.

Since its establishment in 2018, the Women in STEM Coalition has worked to empower and connect members of the Defence community while supporting professional growth. This year’s event continues that mission, exploring how diverse perspectives are shaping the future of Defence and driving progress.

The event will begin with a keynote speech by Lieutenant-Colonel (Ret’d) Diane Barry, who will draw on insights from her 27-year career in the Canadian Armed Forces as a financial officer. She will speak about “authentic leadership” across operational, strategic, and special forces contexts, highlighting how communication, self-awareness, and experiential learning contribute to innovation, resilience, and leadership development.

Following the keynote, an interactive panel discussion will feature women from a range of professional backgrounds sharing their experiences and approaches to this year’s theme. The event will conclude with a networking session from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. EDT, offering attendees the chance to connect with peers and panelists.

Defence Team members can attend in person at the National Defence Headquarters (Building 6 Atrium, Carling Campus) or join virtually via MS Teams. Registration must be completed by Friday, 17 October through the reservation form available on the National Defence network.
