Femmes de Salem, a non-governmental organisation that aims to integrate women, youth, and children into Abidjan’s social life, received equipment for producing banana powder from the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA).

TİKA provided a range of manufacturing instruments as part of initiatives to improve the value of bananas, one of the most consumed products in the nation, promote the rehabilitation of women who have been abused, and fight human trafficking associated with irregular migration. One hundred women will have a steady source of income thanks to the production of banana powder, which can be turned into baby food and banana chips.

Deniz Erdoğan Barım, the ambassador of Turkey to Abidjan, said during the equipment distribution ceremony that the TİKA project was carried out as part of the Republic of Turkey’s 2025 “Year of the Family.”

The Ministry of Social Integration and Solidarity of Côte d’Ivoire’s Representative, Doho Patricia Dorothée, thanked the Turkish Embassy in Abidjan and emphasised the importance of TİKA’s project.

In Côte d’Ivoire, underprivileged communities gather for TİKA’s iftar meal. TİKA arranged an iftar event for 1,000 individuals, mostly from underprivileged and vulnerable groups, in collaboration with the Municipality of Abobo and the Supreme Council of Imams, the body in charge of religious matters in Côte d’Ivoire. Furthermore, hot meals were served in mosques in low-income communities.
