In a significant push to support women entrepreneurs in Nigeria, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has partnered with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to launch the “IgniteHer” Entrepreneurship Bootcamp. The five-day intensive programme, currently underway in Abuja, aims to equip women with essential business skills and drive economic inclusion.
Speaking at the event’s inauguration, NITDA’s Director General, Kashifu Inuwa, CCIE, represented by the Special Adviser on Strategic Partnerships, Mrs. Iklima Musa, underscored the programme’s importance in fostering gender equality, innovation, and digital transformation.
“As we celebrate the globally recognised International Women’s Day/month, we are reminded that empowering women is not just about equity; it is about unlocking the full potential of our societies. The theme of this year’s celebration resonated deeply with the mission of the Bootcamp, which is to empower women entrepreneurs for a brighter future,” he stated.
Expressing gratitude to JICA for their ongoing commitment to women’s empowerment in Nigeria, Inuwa highlighted the significance of strategic collaborations in effecting meaningful societal change. He also referenced a powerful quote by Ravi Shankar, stating, “Women shape our world, drive innovation, foster inclusivity, and inspire future generations. It is in this spirit that the IgniteHer Bootcamp is aptly themed ‘Empowering Women Entrepreneurs for a Brighter Future.’”
The bootcamp is specifically designed to tackle the unique challenges women face in business, such as limited access to financial resources and gender disparities in digital literacy. Over the course of the programme, participants will receive training in key areas, including foundational business skills, scaling strategies, sustainability practices, and strategic planning.
“At NITDA, we recognise that empowering women in business is a strategic imperative for national development. Women entrepreneurs are key drivers of economic growth, job creation, and technological innovation,” Inuwa noted. JICA’s representative, Nao Fuwa, also shared his enthusiasm for the partnership, calling it a valuable opportunity for Nigerian women. “This is a great opportunity for women,” he remarked, urging participants to fully engage with the programme.
Encouraging an interactive and immersive experience, Fuwa advised attendees to make the most of the bootcamp. “Ask questions, be interactive, and enjoy the event,” he said. He further emphasised the programme’s broader impact, adding, “This event will not only shape you, but will shape the vision of Nigeria’s economy.”
The “IgniteHer” Bootcamp seeks to create a lasting, measurable impact by addressing the systemic barriers women entrepreneurs face. Through this initiative, NITDA and JICA aim to bridge the gaps in Nigeria’s business landscape, fostering a more inclusive and sustainable digital economy for women across the country.
