Franklin Templeton has launched its HeadStart programme in collaboration with Princess Nourah Bint Abdulrahman University (PNU) and several domestic and international partners, marking a new initiative to support young women entering Saudi Arabia’s financial sector. The announcement took place on the sidelines of FII9, bringing together senior figures from global corporations and government bodies.

The initiative involves cooperation from the Ministry of Investment of Saudi Arabia, The Bank of New York (BNY), Fitch Ratings, Saudi Venture Capital Company (SVC), SNB Capital, Simmons & Simmons and Standard Chartered. It aims to enhance professional pathways for female students in Saudi Arabia, offering a mix of academic learning and on-the-job training.

Designed for undergraduate students in their final year studying finance and economics, HeadStart operates in two phases. Participants will first complete online coursework through Franklin Templeton Academy, covering topics such as asset classes, portfolio construction, market analysis and legal & compliance. The second stage includes a four-month in-office co-op placement with partner firms, giving students direct exposure to practical experience within asset management and financial services environments.

Speaking at the launch, Jenny Johnson, CEO of Franklin Templeton, highlighted the importance of expanding the pipeline of women entering the industry. She said, “I have long held the belief that financial services is an industry of choice. The services we provide help people all over the world achieve the most important financial milestones of their lives. And women are one of the biggest drivers of our industry’s continuing growth story. Hence, we are excited to offer Headstart by Franklin Templeton as a first step to the students of PNU in their investment management journey.”

On completion, students will receive certification reflecting their training and may also be considered for job roles at organisations where they complete their co-op phase. The programme is positioned as a pathway for future female leaders in finance and as part of broader efforts to support talent development in the Kingdom.

Muneera Al-Doassary, CEO of Franklin Templeton Saudi Arabia, said the programme demonstrates collaboration between sector partners and emerging professionals. “The launch of ‘HeadStart’ is a powerful illustration of unity, bringing together local and global financial institutions, and future talent. We recognize the immense potential of Saudi Arabia’s young demographics, particularly our talented women, as the key to our future growth. This initiative that will create a long-lasting legacy, is our collective commitment to empowering this generation and accelerating their inclusion in our expanding financial sector.”

During the unveiling, partner organisations were acknowledged for their support. Franklin Templeton stated that working closely with international and Saudi institutions is vital for driving scale and ensuring meaningful industry development. The asset manager described the initiative as in line with its wider values around youth training and advancing the role of women in finance.
