BlackRock Announces Key Leadership Appointments, with two Women heads – Ms. Susan Chan and Ms. Hua Fan

BlackRock announced the leadership changes to strengthen the firm's position in the crucial markets, with the appointed Hua Fan as Head of China and Susan Chan as Head of Asia Pacific.

BlackRock appointed Hua Fan as Head of China, with the appointment of Jim Zhang as General Manager of BlackRock CCB Wealth Management Limited (“BlackRock CCB Wealth”), based on a regulatory approval, on 15th January, 2024. BlackRock promoted Susan Chan as Head of Asia Pacific, and named Andrew Landman and Hiroyuki Shimizu as Deputy Heads of Asia Pacific, on 13th January, 2024.

Ms. Hua Fan joined BlackRock CCB Wealth in 2022 and played a vital role in expanding the wealth management joint venture and reshaping the leadership. She has more than 25 years of experience in the investment sector, and previously held the position of Chief Investment Officer at China Merchant Bank’s wealth management subsidiary. She has also worked at China Investment Corporation and Goldman Sachs.

Hua Fan stated on her new appointment that “Leading BlackRock CCB Wealth was a remarkable journey, and I am excited to embrace the expanded responsibilities. This new challenge offers a unique opportunity to deepen our commitment to the Chinese market and continue serving our clients as fiduciaries, delivering comprehensive solutions that meet the needs of local investors.”

Ms. Susan Chan, based in Hong Kong, will take on the role of leading the Asia Pacific region and will be responsible for overseeing the wide spectrum of business, client, investment, and operational platforms, serving wealth and institutional investors. She has held various roles at BlackRock including Deputy Head of Asia Pacific, Head of Greater China, and Head of Trading, Liquidity & Lending for Asia Pacific. She joined BlackRock as Head of iShares Capital Markets and Products for Asia Pacific in 2013, prior becoming Head of ETFs and Index Investing, a position she held until 2021. Currently, Ms. Chan is a member of BlackRock’s Global Executive Committee, including the Global Markets Committee, and holds positions on the firm’s Asia Pacific Executive and Steering Committees.

The appointments of Hua Fan and Jim Zhang are key to our continued growth as we aspire to become the premier global asset manager in China.”

Jim Zhang has been appointed as the GM of BlackRock CCB Wealth Management. He managed the China leadership team for the past eight years, and recently handled the management operation supporting the onshore businesses of the company. He also served as the Chief Liaison to China Construction Bank. Prior to this role, Jim held positions such as Deputy General Manager, Chief Technology Officer, and Chief Operating Officer at BlackRock Fund Management Company and has commenced his career since 1994 in the financial services industry .

BlackRock has also named Andrew Landman and Hiroyuki Shimizu as the Deputy Heads of Asia Pacific and James Raby as the Chief Operating Officer for Asia Pacific.

BlackRock has achieved significant progress in its business operations in China, including the establishment of a fund management business and a wealth management joint venture. It has developed various investment capabilities in equities, fixed income, and multi-asset strategies, as well as the development of a strong local team with internal leadership growth.
