The Atlantic 10 Conference has confirmed a new multi-year partnership with OrthoVirginia, naming the organisation as the Exclusive Official Orthopedic & Sports Medicine Partner of the Atlantic 10 Women’s Basketball Championship.
The agreement runs through June 2029 and coincides with the Championship’s four-year return to Henrico, Virginia. Conference officials said the partnership reflects the long-standing presence both organisations have within the Commonwealth.
Based in Richmond, OrthoVirginia is Virginia’s largest provider of orthopedic care, operating with more than 160 orthopedic specialists across 36 locations. Its reach across the state closely aligns with the Atlantic 10’s footprint in the region, which includes the University of Richmond, Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) and George Mason University, as well as The George Washington University in nearby Washington, D.C.
Under the partnership, OrthoVirginia and the Atlantic 10 will work together on initiatives aimed at recognising athletic achievement, promoting community health and improving awareness and access to orthopedic care. The collaboration is intended to support student-athletes while strengthening ties with local communities.
“Partnering with OrthoVirginia is a win-win, aligning one of the best basketball-centric brands with the premium orthopedic care provider in Virginia,” said Bernadette V. McGlade, Atlantic 10 Commissioner. “We value having a trusted, Virginia-based healthcare leader by our side. This partnership reinforces our commitment to providing the highest level of support for our student-athletes.”
As part of the agreement, OrthoVirginia will introduce ‘Hometown Heroes in Healthcare’, a community recognition initiative highlighting local orthopedic specialists who contribute to Virginia athletics. The organisation will also act as presenting partner of the A-10 International Women’s Day Brunch, held annually during Championship week. The event will feature a panel of local female leaders, including OrthoVirginia healthcare professionals, discussing developments in orthopedic medicine and access to care.
“We are proud to partner with the Atlantic 10 Conference and support the incredible student-athletes competing at the Women’s Basketball Championship,” said Michael Wind, Jr., MD; Orthopedic Surgeon at OrthoVirginia. “As a Virginia-based practice, we are passionate about investing in our communities and helping people understand their options for orthopedic care. The first step toward treatment is knowing what is available to you, and this partnership provides an opportunity to connect directly with attendees to provide orthopedic education.”
JMI Sports, the Atlantic 10 Conference’s exclusive multimedia rights partner operating locally as A-10 Conference Marketing, supported the development of the partnership framework. Conference officials said the collaboration aligns OrthoVirginia’s community priorities with the Championship’s long-term strategy in Virginia.
“This collaboration demonstrates the power of strategic alignment between the Atlantic 10’s Women’s Basketball Championship and a community-minded organization,” said Adam Donaldson, Senior Vice President, JMIS Properties at JMI Sports. “By connecting the A-10 with OrthoVirginia, we have built a partnership that amplifies healthcare awareness and reinforces both entities’ strong presence in Virginia.”
