Advans Ghana Savings and Loans and Development Bank Ghana (DBG) have partnered to launch AdvansHER Gender Programme- a transformative capacity-building initiative, to empower women across Ghana.

The initiative is a bold step in the direction of Advans Ghana’s commitment to inclusive growth and sustainable development by supporting women in business, who form one of the most dynamic sectors of Ghana’s economy.

The program seeks to empower women entrepreneurs by helping them build the skills, resources and financial literacy integral to surviving in the present economy. Over 100 women have already been trained under this program.

Training with purpose

The AdvansHER training is comprised of three core pillars critical to business success:

Digital marketing strategies: Teaching participants how to use social media and online platforms to boost visibility and grow their customer base

Business formalisation: Assisting women to register and structure their businesses for long-term scalability and access to formal financial services

Record keeping: Equipping participants with practical bookkeeping methods to help them manage cash flow, control expenses and make informed business decisions

Besides the training, participants were also given a customised business toolkit consisting of planning templates, marketing guides and finance tools, allowing them to immediately apply their newly honed skills.

Unlocking new financial avenues

Advans Ghana Savings and Loans Ltd. is a financial institution licensed by the Bank of Ghana and focused on empowering MSMEs. After the AdvansHER initiative, Advans Ghana has also reviewed its collateral policy to create more avenues for women entrepreneurs to secure higher funding to expand their businesses.

The institution has also launched EduSave: a policy seeking to break the cycle of intergenerational poverty by enabling mothers to save towards their children’s education.

A long-term vision for impact

The company is now seeking to expand the AdvansHER programme by introducing advanced modules on leadership, investment readiness and long-term sustainability. Advans Ghana is also seeking more partnerships to broaden the programme’s reach and amplify its impact nationwide.

A spokesperson for Advans Ghana said, “We are not just training women; we are investing in the future of Ghana’s economy. This is about scale, sustainability and unlocking the full potential of women-led enterprises.”
