Abu Dhabi has launched a new taxi booking service in partnership with international ride-hailing service Yango. Now, the passengers in the emirate can order both public and private taxi cars and licensed private vehicles. During the trial phase, over 300 taxis were active in the emirate, and the Yango app facilitated more than 8,000 trips in the past five months.

The Yango mobile app currently features more than 1,500 registered taxis and can be downloaded for free on both iOS and Android platforms in Arabic, English, and several other languages.

In order to use the services of a taxi, the users just need to launch the application and enter the desired destination. When the geolocation is on, the service identifies where the user is, and the nearest driver who will come with the shortest time possible. The service also helps relieve residents’ woes of losing items in a taxi. In order to shield property that passengers leave in taxi during a ride, the drivers are advised to return the items to the owners or the nearest police station. Moreover, the drivers are expected to record all information that has to do with the aforementioned belongings together with the franchise companies and submit the same to Abu Dhabi Mobility whenever asked to do so.

Yango operates under the global tech firm Yango Group, focusing on transportation and logistics services for everyday needs.

Abdulla Al Marzouqi, Director General of the Integrated Transport Centre  said, “Offering the service through international apps enhances the overall efficiency of taxi operations. It facilitates the process of locating vehicles and booking rides electronically for all members of the community. This initiative connects public and private taxis, as well as licensed private vehicles, with passengers in the emirate through secure, approved electronic communication platforms and smart apps. It also supports the emirate’s goals of reducing its carbon footprint by improving the operational efficiency of taxis and transport systems overall.”

General Manager at Yango GCC, Islam Abdul Karim, said, “We’re honoured to launch Yango in Abu Dhabi, partnering with Abu Dhabi Mobility. This collaboration brings together innovative technology and advanced world-class infrastructure, promising enhanced urban mobility and a seamless transportation experience for residents and tourists. We look forward to driving progress in the vibrant emirate.”
