Mira Murati, born on December 16, 1988, in Vlore, Albania, has been the Chief Technology Officer of OpenAI since 2018. She graduated from Pearson United World College of the Pacific and holds dual degrees: a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from Colby College (2011) and a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from Thayer School of Engineering (2012). Dartmouth College awarded her an honorary Doctor of Science in 2024 for her contributions to artificial intelligence and technology.

In 2018, Murati joined OpenAI, initially a research lab, driven by her conviction in the transformative potential of generative AI. She began as VP overseeing AI and partnerships, focusing on supercomputing strategy and leading research teams. In a TV interview with Trevor Noah, Murati described her time at Tesla as pivotal, where she gained extensive experience in designing and deploying entire vehicles.
